Saint Philomena is an early virgin-martyr who is known as “wonder-worker” and “Patroness of the Children of Mary”. St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, attributed all of his miracles to her stating, “I have never asked for anything through the intercession of my Little Saint without having been answered”.
The rope, anchor and lilies are symbols of attempts on her life and eventual death at the age of 13 by Emperor Diocletion when she refused his advances. They are several of the images that were found in the catacombs. Her feast day is August 11.
