Includes:

Oak framed metal icon of Saint Brigid of Kildare of Ireland approximately 6 7/8″ x 4 3/4″, visible size approximately 5 3/4″ x 3 3/4″; oak icon stand is approximately 4 1/2″ wide; post is approximately 5″ tall. Image is a copy of an icon written by Orthodox Iconographer, Father Ephrim, recently deceased. (Image is used with permission.)

St. Brigid is shown with a crosier (staff) indicating that she is an abbess;  her foot stands on a sword signifying her renunciation of wealth and her abhorrence of violence; her scroll holds a statement of her goals: “to satisfy the poor, to expel every hardship, to spare every miserable man”.

St. Brigid lived from 451-525 and was a good friend of Saint Patrick. She is known for her dedication to the poor. She founded a Monastery, two monastic institutions and a school of art. She also encouraged beer to heal the sick and to celebrate life.  Her feast day is February 1st.
